Countless of my blog followers and fellow bloggers have been asking me, "Why don't you blog anymore?" Well, part of the ridiculous and unacceptable reason is laziness, and the other? Well, let's just say my mind is.. elsewhere. Those people motivated me to blog again- blog more. I felt happy that people read my blog even though I don't advertise it that much. Makes me feel.. accomplished. *Insert "OH STOP IT, YOU" meme here*
Just this September 03 to 05, 2012, me and my classmates of BSN-IV F had our 3-day retreat at Harmony Village, Sinunuc. The night before, I prepared my clothes, toiletries, food, and of course myself.
I prepared every bit of courage, motivation, and the self-control to NOT text. But hey, how can I text when they confiscate our phones, right? Yes, they did. Very strict. You know those body patting (?) security guards do to check for weapons and other sharp objects? Yeah, they did that. I like that, actually. So as it may seem, I had no choice. I had to surrender my phone. Completely NO GADGETS were present, not even USBs.
As soon as I first step foot on the said venue, I felt excited; my smile was as wide as my broad shoulders and as creepy as the room we stayed in, ROOM 6. There were a lot of scary stories about that room, but the same goes to rooms 4, 7, 13, etc. So I obviously ignored the stories and went on with our retreat.
We were given RETREAT KITS that were composed of a pen and a notebook. All of our reflections and insights were to be filled in that particular notebook.
There were about 5 or more sessions given by different speakers, each with a unique and fun activity. Well, fun as in there will be writing, writing, and more writing. That's fun, right? However, I'll stress on the TOP 3 activities I had the most fun with; one of which involves a stone.
We were asked to pick one or more stones, wash, heat, and place it in front of the altar while saying a little prayer. The stones represent our desires.. In my case, I only chose but 1 stone.
The stone has 2 sharp edges and 1 curved one. We were asked to explain why we chose that certain stone and on what it symbolizes. My answer was..
-----
I chose that stone because one sharp edge symbolizes my wants, and the other sides on what I need or on what is right. I lie on the curved edge for I am still going back and forth on both edges, trying to fight on what I want and on what I need.
-----
I had a longer answer, and after I was done speaking those deep words out, the speaker was shocked and told me in Tagalog, "Wow, your words are so deep. It's hair-raising.", then I was shocked as well. LOL So yeah. That was just about it.
We also read a series of articles that helped us with our faith, on how we treat others, and on our insights in life. I had fun reading the articles as they were of big help to me.
And last but not least, the activity of sticking a piece of paper with my name on it on my back, and letting my friends write something about me with my eyes closed. I was so happy with the comments and felt blessed that people appreciate and recognize me for my passion, writing and art. :)
And as you can see, the most common comments are that they enjoy listening to me speak (ENGLISHERA daw), and that my words are deep and poetic, even though the questions are quite simple. Also there were remarks on me being creative with drawing and on graphic art like photo and video editing. One or two comments also said I was tall. Yay! LOL
So that's just about it. I had so much fun during our retreat and am glad that my "comeback" to blogging is on this topic.
God bless everyone and have a wonderful day! It isn't too late to change. Forgive and be forgiven. :) And to my readers.. How are you? I've missed you. xx

I still have my stones with me. Hihi. I realized a lot of things when we had our retreat plus maga di amun mga ohos for 3 days! hihi.
ReplyDeleteI remember my own "retreats" from over the years. LOL. Some were good retreats where I actually learned stuff and there were some done "for the heck of it". Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteOur retreats were very dramatic noh? XDD
DeleteIt's good to have you back TK! Not that I was blogging much myself. But it's great to see you pour your soul into a blog :)
P.S. Di ba naubos mga bato dun?
HAHA. Sobra kadaming bato dun. My friends even chose those huge ones na parang size ng book na. Haha!
DeleteI realized that this is sort of a "spoiler" for me since we will be having our retreat on February. Hehe. Anyway, this post is making me more excited about it.
ReplyDeleteglad to know that the retreat went well. my last retreat in college is ok-ok. maybe not as memorable as yours in terms of the activities since i always sneak out to go back to our cottage. i know it's bad but i haven't had a decent sleep that time, super groggy ako hahaha :D
ReplyDeleteRetreats are surely events to be cherished. It's fun and a great learning experience too. I'm glad you had a great time. I, too, had a great time during my college retreat..learnings and multo experiences! =)
ReplyDeletewell cool ang retreat. but i think hnd ko tga kayang mabuhay ng ganun ang gnagawa. i remember those days. still pasaway parn kmi ni rhea. haha. good thing u enjoyed ur retreat dear ;)
ReplyDeletehuuuuuuy si. ang tagal mong nawala!!
ReplyDeletei hope back to normal ka na na blogger. heheh

I agree with you, going on retreats is a great way to discern and start anew. I remember always crying during retreats hahaha :D
ReplyDeleteOh, retreat is just fine for me. I mean I love watching dramas but duh, who wants dramas in the real world. hahahaha what makes me feel awkward is sleeping with all your classmates, I'm not used to it, I love sleeping alone. LOL! And yeah, the worst part is when you can't use any gadget like WTF it's 20th century dear. bwahahahah
ReplyDeleteYou sure learned a lot of things in that retreat! I'm super happy for you Trish! Hope we can see each other soon :) Nice blog header up there btw.. :p
ReplyDeleteI enjoy retreats. Gusto ko un sessions na meron iyakan at drama! Wihihihi....
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your 3-day retreat! :) Now, I wish I didn't enroll my retreat subject on a summer term. There were only 8 of us in class and we didn't even go out of town! How sad is that?! *sigh* Well, at least I got to join you on your retreat by reading your post.. :) Welcome back, Trish!
ReplyDeleteI miss having retreats! Retreats are really memorable, for me anyway. I love the spiritual feeling thing. Haha. :D
ReplyDeleteWe're all so busy with our offline life. It is understandable. I don't blog daily as I used to as well.
Nice to see you back with a new post. Retreats are always a great way to reassess yourself and can be really helpful if we learn from it.
ReplyDeleteaaaw i miss going to retreats. I feel like i need something like that :)
ReplyDeleteRovie,
The Bargain Doll
Hey Trish! Welcome back to blogging! I am glad you're back and I love your new lay-out. Clean and nice, Cheers (edmar)
ReplyDeleteLooks like it turns to be a good experience. I want to experience this kind of activities too and I hope that there will be an opportunity for me to get involve in this kind of activities.
ReplyDeleteI like your interpretation on the stone, well said... :D
ReplyDeleteRetreats are good, it makes you focus on God and yourself. I bet you are spiritually rejuvenated after this activity. God bless =)
ReplyDeleteI never experienced retreat before .I wish I did to know the feeling and the experiences.
ReplyDeleteKelangan siguro magkaroon ng retreat ang mga blogger rin! Yung retreat saamin walang bato na ginamit. hmmmm. Nakakapag taka din abat kasi ang mga retreat house laging mukhang haunted house.
ReplyDeleteRetreat or in our part as Baptists (camp) simply is an activity most are eager to attend. Syempre, una na ang venue, kung sa Baguio ba o sa Palawan, di ba thrilling. Next the participants, yes, time na rin ito for bahelors to meet lovely girls. But what I like most about retreat are the inspiring messages delivered by speakers, makabagbaging ng damdamin talaga. Leaving home feel mi baging nuilalang ka na. LOL
ReplyDeletetime to reflect and listen to your inner voice is a good break every now and then, aside from being enlightened about the self it is always good to have fun as well...
ReplyDeleteAgreeeeee! :3 I had fun too Kue! :)
ReplyDeleteRetreats is about enlightenment. Some do not take it as fun activity. But for you having fun with it and getting also the blessings of our faith you are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteThe return of the comeback! Welcome back to blogging Trish. I miss doing retreat!
ReplyDeleteIto yung namiss ko ngayon... retreat! Although the last time I had one was high school (there were no retreats in UP when I was in college). Nakakamiss. Sharing moments, iyakan here and there, tapos yung mga letters!!!! HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your 3 days retreat. I am hoping to attend one soon because the last retreat that I attended was about 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on any kind of retreat, even during high school. It seems to be a fun activity, as told to me by one of my friends. The letters, especially.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed :)
The last time I had a retreat was 3 years ago. I enjoy retreats because it makes me feel closer to my classmates =)
ReplyDeleteAs for your blogger's block, well, it just happens. Sometimes, I'm not in the mood to blog, too.
Retreats are awesome. Just to get away from the hustle and bustle of life is reason enough. Then, you get to be equipped with great stuff (my church does a lot of marriage, parenting, youth, and leadership retreats) is a plus as well.
ReplyDeleteThat's good that you just also had a retreat so you will unwind your thoughts and come back blogging fresh. Keep up in your studies.
ReplyDeleteThat's good that you just also had a retreat so you will unwind your thoughts and come back blogging fresh. Keep up in your studies.
ReplyDeleteGood post. I have always considered such events as a way to rediscover yourself. It puts everything back in its place for us to be wiser in the future.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful answer about the stone. I think I lie on the curved edge as well. :) They sound very strict at Ateneo, I'm from UST and we were able to bring cellphones and stuff but kept it under wraps so they wouldn't know. Heehee.
ReplyDeletegood for you... it is always refreshing and it's like you're restarting coming from retreats and that detox from gadgets reminds us we can survive (even for a few days) being disconnected :)
ReplyDeleteSo much to learn during retreat ^_^ Aside form the bonding with your batchmates and spiritual activities, it will always have the feeling of being renewed. Simply put the things you learned into action :)
ReplyDeleteWe bloggers go through a blogging hiatus at some point, I guess. Writing is output, a sharing of one's self. There comes a time when the well is dry and we need to fill it in. And a retreat is just the most compelling way to get back on the writing trail. Welcome back! :)
ReplyDeletein our retreat, they want us to share whatever we want to share without any scripts. Some were crying while sharing their problems and happy moments. None of us didn't cry. Even the "Tigasin" cried at that time. He felt very angry to himself because he just realized that what he did for the past few years were very wrong.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Trish. Hope that retreat gave you the strength to blog more. ^_^
ReplyDeletewelcome back! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I never experienced this kind of thing...hmm...I really can't remember. hoho :p
BTW, you're very talented based on the comments of your friends. :)
Your entry makes me excited to have my retreat in February! (=
ReplyDeleteCan I simply say what a comfort to discover someone
ReplyDeletethat really understands what they're talking about on the web. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More people have to check this out and understand this side of your story. I can't believe
you are not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
